Delete your Marginota account
Marginota is a language-learning reader operated by Paul Wright. You can delete your account and the data we store for it at any time — no retention pitch, no waiting period. This page explains both ways to do it and exactly what is removed.
If you can sign in (immediate)
- Sign in to Marginota.
- Open the account menu — your picture or initial, at the top right.
- Choose Delete account.
- Read what gets deleted, choose Continue, then confirm. Deletion happens right away and can't be undone.
If you can't sign in
Email me@paulwright.dev from the email address on your account and ask us to delete it. We'll verify the request came from the account's address and complete the deletion within 30 days — usually much sooner — and confirm by email when it's done.
What gets deleted
- Your Marginota account and sign-in (email, name, and profile photo held by our sign-in provider, Clerk)
- Your synced vocabulary — every word you've looked up, its translations, example sentences, and review progress
- Your invite code and referral history (invites you sent and the one you may have claimed)
- Anything you sent us that's tied to your account: iOS waitlist sign-up, feature requests, language requests, and bug reports
- Usage counters and activity markers we keep per account (daily limits, first-use and activity dates)
What isn't deleted
A few things were never tied to your account in the first place:
- Anonymous daily totals (how many readers were active, how many translations happened). These are plain counts with no link to any account, so your past activity stays counted in them, unattributable to you.
- Share links you created. A share snapshot holds only the article text you chose to share — never your account details — and expires within a year. If you want one removed sooner, email us the link and we'll delete it.
- Cached translations. Translation results are cached by content, not by account, and are reused for identical requests from any reader.
- Data on your device. Articles, vocabulary, and preferences saved in your browser or the installed app remain until you clear the site's data or uninstall — we can't reach into your device to remove them.
Service providers may keep operational logs or backups for a time under their own retention practices, and we may retain information where the law requires it. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
