Marginota Terms of Service

What Marginota is

Marginota is a language-learning reader. You can read articles in another language, tap words and phrases to see contextual translations, build a personal vocabulary list, and review words with quizzes. Reading and pasting text are available without an account; translation and article import require one.

Accounts

Accounts are managed by our authentication provider, Clerk. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for activity under your account. You must provide accurate information when creating an account, and you must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) to use the Service.

Subscriptions and billing

Parts of the Service may be offered as paid subscriptions, such as higher translation limits or additional features. Prices, billing intervals, and included limits are shown at purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled; you can cancel at any time, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Refunds are handled case by case — contact us if you believe you were charged in error.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service to violate any law or infringe anyone's rights.
• Attempt to bypass usage limits, abuse free quotas, or resell access to the Service.
• Probe, scan, or test the Service's systems except as explicitly permitted.
• Upload or import content you do not have the right to use.
• Interfere with other users' use of the Service.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or misuse the Service.

Your content

Articles you import or paste, and the vocabulary you build from them, remain yours. You grant us a limited license to store and process that content solely to operate the Service (for example, to extract article text or synchronize your vocabulary across your devices). We do not claim ownership of your content.

Translations are a learning aid, not authoritative

Translations are generated automatically and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or missing nuance — especially for idioms, slang, and specialized subjects. They are provided to support language learning, not as professional translation. Do not rely on them for legal, medical, or other high-stakes purposes.

Intellectual property

The Service itself — its design, code, and branding — is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any ownership rights in the Service. Article content you import from third-party sources remains subject to its owners' rights.

Third-party services

The Service relies on third parties, including Clerk (authentication), Vercel (hosting), Upstash (data and caching), and Anthropic (translations). Their own terms and privacy practices apply to their services.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of inaccuracies.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (or $50 if you paid nothing).

Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; locally stored data in your browser remains yours to delete.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date above, and continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
